Gallery: First Look at Red Rooster in Harlem

Beef Patties ($5)
Flaky and tender dough with a Central American-style tomatillo salsa.

Gravlax ($7)
House-cured salmon with shaved fennel and injera chips.

Fried Yard Bird ($17)
The crust was too crunchy (if you can believe it) when we tried it, but the meat was fantastically moist and flavorful.

Shrimp and Dirty Rice ($9)
Grilled shrimp with dirty-style basmati rice. One of the more successful fusion elements we sampled.

Sweet Potato Doughnuts ($6)
Light and crisp with a creamy sweet-potato filling. Excellent.

On the Line
The semi-open kitchen looks out on the dining room. Chef Samuelson spent most of the night back there with the cooks.
