You know autumn is in full swing when Grand Street is lined with people devouring Pumpkin Cake Doughnuts ($2.50) from nearby Doughnut Plant. It was a sight to behold when I stopped by the shop this past weekend—lines out the door (as usual), and every other person carrying at least one pumpkin doughnut. And no wonder—it's a flavor to love, especially with a finish of caramelized pumpkin seeds, nutty and crunchy, iced over in a spiced glaze. The doughnut itself is slightly softer than their usual cake doughnuts, a gentle pumpkin flavor hinting of cloves and cinnamon. Fans of their seasonal doughnuts shouldn't pass on the Apple-Cinnamon doughnut, made with a caramelized apple dough. It was available in doughnut hole form last year, and returns as a full-sized wonder this year
