I'm a longtime fan of the cinnamon raisin walnut bread from Orwasher's Bakery on the Upper East Side. ($5.25) Have them slice it in the shop if your goal is morning toast, or take it home and make cubes for bread pudding. Thick slices of this bread also make killer French toast. There are plenty of plump raisins and generous handfuls of chopped walnuts, but I wish the loaf were just a bit more cinnamony.

That's where cinnamon toast butter from Ronnybrook Dairy comes to the rescue. ($3.50 for an eight-ounce tub) When they say cinnamon, they're not kidding—this stuff is intense! It's not butter with some cinnamon; it's more like cinnamon with some butter.

As soon as my morning slices of the Orwasher loaf pops out of the toaster, I slather the cinnamon butter over every visible surface of the toast. Half a pound of just cinnamon butter seemed like a lot at first, but when I found myself heaping the softened butter over anything I could get my hands on (torn baguettes, water crackers, shortbread cookies, spoons) I realized I'd have no problem polishing off the tub.
