I've written about how much I love Public's brunch before, but as the seasons change, this menu gets filled with more and more exciting eats. On a recent visit, I discovered their summery lentil salad ($10), a rare example of a brunch dish that's both finish-every-morsel delicious and zero-guilt. (Important at times, especially the day after you've sampled fifty pints of ice cream at a certain website's ice cream social). It doesn't look like much, maybe, but it's a great execution of flavor and texture—the black lentils have a great bite, augmented by smooth avocado and the crunch of string beans and toasted pecans. They're all kissed with a surprisingly subtle dressing of pomegranate molasses and avocado oil before being plated on a bed of baby gem lettuce—a beautiful exposition of summer's best ingredients, and a welcome respite from the butter sauces and fried fixings so often found in indulgent morning meals.
