Walking through the doors at Huckleberry Bar transports you from a fairly nondescript block in Williamsburg to a stylish yet comfortable cocktail den—more like something you'd expect to find in Carroll Gardens or the East Village. It's a beverage haven for those in the neighborhood seeking something more upscale than other local joints, but without the insanely pricey Manhattan cocktail bar tabs.
Stephanie Schneider and Andrew Boggs, both alums of Danny Meyer restaurants, bring their hospitality expertise to Huckleberry, creating a welcoming spot that, although it takes its cocktails seriously, doesn't hesitate to add a dash of fun to the mix. Huckleberry offers Tuesday night punch parties, Monday night movies (August is John Cusack month), DJ's, and True Blood viewing on Sundays—paired with a light food menu of snacks, charcuterie, cheese, sandwiches, and salads.
The cocktail menu contains classics as well as originals, and takes advantage of slightly lesser known spirits Chartreuse, Genever and Mezcal, as well as homemade infusions and syrups. They've added three new cocktails to the list this week, and it changes slightly with the availability of ingredients -- the night we were there, rhubarb was replaced with tarragon in one of the menu's offerings. The Smoke & Mirrors is their unique take on the classic Blood & Sand, with the smoke coming from a touch of mezcal.

1 ounce Bols Genever 1/4 ounce Sombra mezcal 1/4 ounce Luxardo cherry liqueur 1 ounce fresh squeezed grapefruit juice 1/2 ounce Dolin sweet vermouth
Shake with ice, strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a lemon twist.
