Lazy weekday afternoons are best whiled away at one of the cherry tables inside One Girl Cookies in Cobble Hill. One dainty slice of Lemon Olive Oil Cake ($2.50) and a Sicilian Float ($3.75) will leave you satisfied. The olive oil cake is feathery and tender, brightened with lemon zest for a citrusy lift; the olive oil itself is gently employed, as opposed to the bolder slices of Abraco and La Colombe. The golden, powder sugar-dusted crust is the highlight of the cake, absolutely delightful and toasty in flavor.
Pair with the summery Sicilian Float which couples a scoop of lemon sorbet with peach iced tea. A spoon, a straw, or both? The choice is yours. I personally enjoy the sorbet halfway melted, the fizzy tangy chill a welcome relief in this weather. The tea is by Teany and sorbet by Il Laboratorio del Gelato. An easy-to-recreate combo, but how often are you going to have both ingredients at your side?
