This petite Pecan-Cranberry Loaf ($3.25) from the first retail location of Pain D'Avignon in the Essex Street Market has provided not just double, but triple duty for my bread cravings. First, toasted in the mornings with slathers of sweet cream butter. Then, in the afternoon, sliced for mini sandwiches with curried chicken salad. Finally, after dinner with a generous cut of Bayley Hazen Blue Cheese from Jasper Hill Farm. The loaf itself is truly excellent: crusty, hearty and generously studded with crushed pecans and cranberries. (Note: The same bread is also sold as individual rolls for 75¢ each.)
