I'm not usually the biggest fan of frosting, but the dark chocolate frosting slathered between, over, and on the sides of the Chocolate-Cherry Cake ($5.95) at Village Tart is reason alone to purchase a slice. It's smooth through and through, without the slightest bit of graininess, and more chocolate-y than sugary. Whipped to incorporate just a smidgen more air than the typical buttercream, it's unusually light on the tongue. As for the cake alone? Your basic chocolate cake, extra moist. Cherry, sweet and tart, is scattered over the surface.
