At Cha-An in the East Village, a trio of cookies ($2 each) are an ideal accompaniments to a cup of afternoon tea. Dusty, crumbly shortbreads, sugar-dusted, in flavors of Black Sesame, Chocolate, and Matcha. The delicate chocolate is more cocoa-y than chocolate-y, exactly what you'd expect from a Japanese tea parlor. Matcha is true to taste, and barely sweetened, while the black sesame has sesame paste blended into the dough and whole seeds studded throughout. Buttery rich? Not at all, but perfect for a dunk in hot tea.
