Back in April, we mentioned the Chocolate Iced Sorbet Macaron ($2.50); and yes, it's perfect for a midday bite while strolling in the East Village. But as awesome that macaron is, we suggest you pass on that for other ChikaLicious offerings—like the cookie éclair ice cream sandwich ($4.50).
The chocolate and vanilla éclairs that ChikaLicious turns out aren't just any éclairs, but cookie éclairs—so named because of that little extra crunch over the shell surface, like the double-layered shell method of Beard Papa's. With the ice cream sandwich, that same choux pastry shell is sliced open horizontally, filled with vanilla bean soft serve , and then topped off with hot fudge. Fork and knife required. Messy, but wonderful, with the soft-serve and dark, smooth fudge melting into hollows of the choux pastry.
Should you require something on the go, the éclair (minus the cream, of course) also takes on the role of an ice cream cone—the Ice Cream Cone Eclair ($3.50). Don't underestimate the size of this treat: the vanilla bean soft serve is piped all the way to the very bottom of the "cone." Less decadent than the ice cream sandwich, but just as perfect a treat with warm weather around the corner.
