This week, you get two cocktails for the price of one. Dushan Zaric and Jason Kosmas, the team behind Employees Only & Macao Trading Co., released their very own lime cordial and grenadine under the name EO Brands. You may be familiar with some of the more commercial versions of these products—particularly if you've ever made a gimlet at home or ordered it in a bar that doesn't use fresh juices. My first taste of Grenadine was in a Shirley Temple, and given its super-sweetness and shocking red color, I had no idea that it could be made from something as natural as sweetened pomegranate juice.
EO's products turn away from their mass-produced peers, using natural ingredients. The EO Grenadine is sweetened with sugar, lets the slight tartness of the pomegranate shine through, and carries a hint of cloves and other spices. The lime cordial is tangy and bright and gets its sweetness from agave nectar. Although either would be perfectly tasty mixed into a club soda as a refreshing non-alcoholic beverage, they truly shine in cocktails.
These two cocktails showcase their EO Grenadine and Lime Cordial, which are currently for sale at Employees Only and will shortly become available to the home bartender through Fresh Direct.
The Grenadine in the Billionaire Cocktail lends a sweet pomegranate note and pink hue to the drink, which packs a punch from the 107 proof bourbon. The Lucy Thai is quite refreshing, with the bitterness of the grapefruit and Campari balanced with the sweet zing of the lime cordial.
