I stopped by Roni-Sue's Chocolates this afternoon to pick up a few truffles, some pig candy, and perhaps a slice of pie. But something else caught my eye. Could that be? Tiramisu? I asked the girl behind the counter, and yes indeed, it was tiramisu ($5), a recent addition to their lineup of sweets at the Essex Street Market. It's a boozy one for sure, ladyfingers soaked all the way through. The bulk of the tiramisu is the mascarpone cream layer, utterly light, pure and dusted in cocoa powder. That said, I found the cake and cream proportions are off—I'd have preferred a little less cream—but it's still tasty. (Keep your eyes out for a tiramisu roundup in the near future!)
