Always on the lookout for a good aperitivo hour in Manhattan, I was happy to stumble upon the happy hour special at Ballaró Caffé Prosciutteria—between 6 and 7:30 p.m., seven nights a week, the purchase of a glass of wine earns you entrée to a beautiful buffet spread. Expect at least a few cured meats, freshly sliced from hefty hunks of prosciutto or from rounds of mortadella; cheeses, at least three or four, tending toward the aged and Italian; and any number of other antipasti, from white anchovies to roasted garlic to tiny bruschette and fresh green olives.
