I've seen many strange things on the subway—but never quite as strange as thousands of pounds of apples. In this ad for New York's City Harvest food bank, a girl is surprised to see an avalanche of apples spilling from the train. "Every day, more than 70,000 pounds of food is wasted in this city," says the announcer over the loudspeaker, "while thousands of residents don't have enough to eat."

As you might guess, no food was wasted in the making of this video—it's all CGI. (See how they did it here.) Either way, pretty awesome visual.

The video, after the jump.
