A set of three cakes recently made way on the menu at ChikaLicious in the East Village—Strawberry Shortcake, Green Tea & Grand Marnier, and Valhrona Chocolate Cake. When asked for a recommendation, the owner pointed us in the direction of the Chocolate. "Very rich," he declared.
Slices are pre-cut and dainty—a good thing, in this case, when the cake was indeed rich, velvety and dark. Mousse is layered upon cake, upon mousse, upon cake, and finished with a cover of ganache. Served chilled, it's a perfectly portioned indulgence for one. If you're in an extra devilish mood, couple the cake with a helping of their house vanilla bean soft serve.
Cakes are available by the slice or whole rounds in sizes ranging from 6" to 10".
