Sugar Rush: Black Bottom Cake at Birdbath

Birdbath, with bakery locations in the East and West Village, recently added a new baked good to the morning line-up: the black bottom cake. Let's break it down. At the bottom, a half-inch layer of chocolate cake, fudgey and just a touch too dry. Dryness however, can easily be fixed by the creamy tower of cheesecake, on the lighter end, and shards of dark chocolate that easily melt away with each bite. The great thing about Birdbath is that the black bottom cake is nestled alongside more "proper" morning breakfast goods like vegan muffins, making it easy to bypass those for this one (with little guilt). Nothing like a bit of sugar to get you off and running on a weekday morning.

Birdbath also added "fresh pizza" to the morning menu: $5 to $7 per individual pie, each about 5-inches wide.
