Sugar Rush: Lisa's Cookie Shop

Sugar Rush

Your daily dose of something sweet.

20090109-lisascookies-pack.jpgLisa's Cookie Shop isn't a physical shop—it exists in cyperspace—but it's a happy, buttery place where I'd like to spend more time. Lisa Ciriello, who left a job in finance, doesn't bake intimidating or exotic things, but the kinds you grew up on. She looks out for the coconut lover with her coconut chocolate chip cookies and pecan coconut bars, both of which have chewable coconut shards that liven up the classics.

Lisa also looks out for the Autumn freak (guilty, right here) with her oatmeal spice cookies, which highlight the season's holy trinity of spices—cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg. Some might call them over-spiced, but there's really no such thing. The indecisive eaters will appreciate her kitchen sink cookies, which combine chocolate chunks, coconut, macadamia nuts, and cranberries. All her cookies are on the crunchy side, but not rock-hard.

Baked goods are sold in brown paper bags (ranging from $7.25 to $7.50 for seven cookies or four to five bars) with ingredients listed on the back. And it's crazy, the contents actually taste like the ingredients! Your friend or grandma could probably bake something similar, but if they're busy, give Lisa a call.

Lisa's kitchen is located at 59 Distillery Road, Warwick NY 10990 (map), where cookies can be picked up. To order for shipping, call 845-987-2167 or visit

Also available at Pennings Orchard and Frazzleberries in Warwick, as well as other East Coast coffee shops and markets.
