Should I admit that I made my first visit to Williamsburg, Brooklyn's Saturday-only hipster artisanal food bazaar Smorgasburg this past Saturday? Ahh, why not. What did I find? Some insanely serious food that we haven't written about. Until now, that is.
Mile End's dinner menu is not for the faint of heart. A compromise among these hard-hitting carnivorous entrées and, well, a romaine salad, is the cod fritter falafel ($11), which gives traditional falafel a run for its money. Shaped like falafel, these cod fritters have a light, crisp crust (no grease!) with a flaky fish interior. You'll wish for plenty more in your order.
The crew at Serious Eats has loved the idea of Mile End, a self-styled Montreal deli in New York, since it opened just about one year ago. We all love the Montreal-style smoked meat we've eaten at Schwartz's, and of course our love of pastrami and smoked meat knows no bounds.
