30 amateur chefs competing in the 10th Annual Brooklyn Chili Takedown put on their Sunday's best aprons for a warming afternoon of slowly simmered meats, beans, and hot peppers at the Bellhouse in the Gowanus.

Since 2003, Matt Timms has been gathering New Yorkers to take part in competitive bacchanalias of stews, bacon treats, ice cream, and plenty more. Okay, so a bacchanalia of stew doesn't sound that sexy. But when opportunity knocks on your door to try 26 varieties of crazy chili to a soundtrack of heavy metal, you go.
Turns out, people really like beans and slow-cooked meats in huge vats, because the turnout for yesterday's Chili Takedown at Union Pool in Williamsburg was insane. Find out the winners here.
