Date Night: Królewskie Jadło

After a meal here, you might not want to do much more than curl up with your date beneath a warm blanket. With its hearty, comforting fare, Krolewskie Jadlo is best for: a date you won't mind seeing in sweatpants afterward.

A Sandwich a Day: The Jones at Lunchbox Brooklyn

The beets impart a slight graininess, as they often do, but the creamy/crunchy contrast of the goat cheese and the walnuts and apple slices leaves the most lasting impression.

A Sandwich a Day: Roast Organic Chicken from Five Leaves

Chicken and anchovies: a combination we can get behind. This warm roast organic chicken from Five Leaves in Greenpoint ($11) isn't exciting on its own, but add a smash of anchovy, the nutty tang of Parmesan, and chipotle mayo and it makes one hell of a sandwich.

A Sandwich a Day: The Bronx Bomber from Franklin Corner Cafe

But we loved the Bronx Bomber: insanely moist roast pork with Swiss cheese, barbecue sauce, jalapeño for a bit of heat, and avocado to cool it all down. On hot pressed bread, the components fuse together in a beautiful fatty, tangy union. Such a winner.

Clockwise from top left: The Habitat has a fairly nondescript storefront; the DIY bloody Mary station occupies a window perch; the English muffin egg sandwich is an Egg McMuffin to the tenth power. [Photograph: Adam Kuban] This is all...
