A Sandwich A Day: Media Noche, Margon

The Media Noche at Margon is similar to their Cuban sandwich, only on a sweet potato bread, something like a Cuban brioche. And it's only four bucks!

A Sandwich A Day: Cubano at the Morningside Heights Havana Central

Cubanos (or mixtos as they're called in Cuba and Miami), with their meaty/tangy blend of roast pork, ham, cheese, and pickles, have a pretty secure spot in the list of top 10 sandwiches of all time. It can be pretty tough to find a great one in Manhattan, but Havana Central does it up right.

Coppelia: The 24-Hour Cuban Diner We Didn't Know We Needed

Some restaurants open to fill a clear need—and some restaurants strike a note so right that they seem as if they were needed all along. I didn't know that 14th Street needed a 24-hour Cuban diner, polished but homey, Latin-and-American, with cheery yellow walls and remarkable desserts and Maná and Juanes as the soundtrack. But now that I've been, it seems the most logical idea in the world.

In The Midnight Hour: Pinalito City

For years, Clinton Restaurant—on the corner of Houston and Clinton Streets—was a favorite for cheap Latin food on the pierced lip of the Lower East Side. Double Review: Carteles Cuban Sandwiches and Coffee

Editor's note: Both of our East Village denizens, Kathy YL Chan and Nick Solares, had a lot to say about the brand-new Carteles Cuban Sandwiches. So we'll let them both have at it! [Photos unless otherwise noted: Nick Solares] NICK:...

New Jersey Dispatch: El Unico for the Best Cuban Food in New Jersey

Even in my wildest dreams, I couldn’t call El Unico a “find.” Indeed, the only word that comes to mind describing it is “legend.” And the meta-legend—the legend that begat all other El Unico legends—is that this is both...

Sophie's Cuban Turkey Sandwich is Nice Thanksgiving Warm-Up

All this turkey talk serves to remind me how much I love the turkey sandwich at Sophie's Cuban. The meat is ridiculously tender and the tomato gravy moistens it up quite nicely. I think this week, to make it...

El Sitio Makes One Serious Cubano and Some Great Garlic Bread

Like all serious eaters I strive to find deliciousness in every morsel that passes my lips. Sometimes that doesn’t happen though, resulting in disappointment. And sometimes the disappointment is so strong that the wrong must be righted immediately. The...
