Date Night: La Palina

Toward the end of our meal, another waiter came over to chat. He mentioned that lately the place had been attracting young people from Williamsburg, Greenpoint, and "even Dumbo," much to his happiness. "Most of our clients have been with us for years," he said. "It's good eats, you know, nothing fancy." Agreed. La Palina is best for: a date that makes you feel like family.

Our pal Zach passionately declares: "World Tong is the best dim sum in New York City. And it’s not in Manhattan’s Chinatown, or Flushing or even in Sunset Park, Brooklyn’s under-appreciated Chinatown. It’s in Bensonhurst, and despite being an overly...

Dim Sum at World Tong in Bensonhurst

When dim sum lover Zach Brooks recommended World Tong in Bensonhurst, he warned that it was popular and gets crowded early. How did my friends and I get a table so easily? We went at 10:30 a.m. on a...

The Best Gelato in New York Is Being Served in a Tanning Salon

I know it's winter, so you're probably not thinking about ice cream, gelato, or any other frozen dessert, but listen up. Gino Cammarata, as I wrote in the New York Times in 2002, might be New York City's best artisanal...
