Where there is food. A lot of food.

Blue Bottle Coffee

With single-origin drip coffees and some potent espresso drinks, Blue Bottle doesn't mess around with anything highfalutin or fancy...

...but their 12th location continues to pay attention to precision and technique. Locals can pop in for a cup and set up shop at many of the small tables or window-seats nearby, and no one will bug you for staying a while.

Cannibal Beer and Butcher
Cannibal Beer and Butcher

An outpost of their popular Gramercy location. Chef Francis Derby’s Cannibal menu offers market-driven small plates like pastrami lamb breast; various sausages; tuna, steak and lamb tartars; and the “Bacon Board” or “County Ham Board,” a selection of three hams with biscuits and honey.

They also have 200 beers available with ten more on draft, so plenty to pair with various pâtés, terrines, and vegetable plates.

Court Street Grocers
Court Street Grocers

The Brooklyn-based team serves up very grown-up sandwiches at their new outpost, which tower with fresh herbs, local meats that come braised, roasted and confited, and vegetables that make their way in via purees and thick roasts. Yes, the prices aren't shy for a sandwich, but neither are the portions.

Brooklyn Kitchen
Brooklyn Kitchen

Packed to the brim with a variety of high-end products like Mast Brothers Chocolate, Ovenly treats, local products, and an unhealthy variety of Mason jars and coffee makers, Brooklyn Kitchen is definitely a diamond in the rough of Hell’s Kitchen market scene. They also offer almost-daily cooking classes to help brush up you sourdough bread-making, gluten-free baking, and knife skills.

And if all else fails, grab some burrata from Vermont, a bottle of wine, and a baguette and call it a night.

They’re well equipped for holiday cooking, too, with full birds and brining kits, pastry tools, copious amounts of heavy French equipment, and cocktail-makings, like Lavender, Saffron, and Rose simple syrups from Royal Rose.

Ivan Ramen Slurp Shop
Ivan Ramen Slurp Shop

Don’t let Ivan Orkin’s Long Island roots fool you; the dude found his success in Japan, and his recently opened shop in Gotham has drawn a cult-like following already. Check out our full review of the entire menu here, and keep your eyes peeled for a second location on Clinton Street, which will open (hopefully) not too far into the new year will be a bit more of a “cheffy” place, with a much-expanded menu “that’s more of a restaurant with ramen.” It’ll offer lots of small plates and drinks “right for carousing."

Genuine Roadside
Genuine Roadside

AvroKo (the design group behind Saxon + Parole, Madam Geneva, Beauty & Essex and a bunch more) gives lots to look at with Genuine Roadside, where you order thick milk shakes, burgers and fries, fried pickles and old-school potato rolls, get one of those little light-up buzzer things, and find a place to sit…

El Colmado
El Colmado

Seamus Mullen’s menu is full of mordiscos, tapas and small plates fit for sharing, like smoked cheese, deviled eggs with bacalao, finger sandwiches, hand-cut jamon Iberico, and grilled skirt steak. Evidently they’re also pretty psyched about their olive-oil fryer, which is pretty rare in New York despite its popularity in Spain.

There’s also lots of squid and this octopus friend, which will get thrown on the plancha and served with marinated potatoes.

Mullen also has a decent sherry, wine and sangria list, and signs like this to support the incidental lunch-time drinking a place like Gotham West inspires.

Little Chef
Little Chef

Caroline Fidanza’s Saltie gets expanded into clean, bright menu with soups like the Cock-A-Leekie (with chicken, leek and prunes) and the Robillita (cranberry bean, cabbage, kale and tomato) as well as a few heartier items like Braised Beef Ribs that come with noodles and a root vegetable salad. They also have housemade pastries and a refreshing turmeric tonic for washing everything down.
