The kitchen at Il Buco Alimentari e Vineria does some incredible sandwiches, but don't forget about the bakery counter up front. The pre-wrapped Salami Toscano ($15) looks pretty plain—a massive loaf of focaccia that eclipses any trace of sausage, but it delivers.
Open up the sandwich and you'll see that there is a generous portion of excellent salami Toscano, a dry, coarse sausage flavored with red wine and peppercorns. It's just mounded up in the center under a blanket of nutty aged goat cheese. Take a bite and it all comes together—not-too-fatty sausage with just-oily-enough bread, plenty savory with a peppery kick. It's pricy for a pre-made sandwich but big enough to share, and a portable way to enjoy some excellent charcuterie.
