The Vendy Awards, New York's annual celebration of street food, are hitting Sunset Park in just a couple days. Over the past couple weeks we've been looking at the finalists in their rookie category—new vendors who started cooking on the street just this year. Last up: Neapolitan Express.
The idea to launch a pizza truck came to the founders of Neapolitan Express after a Chelsea landlord wanted to charge an exorbitant rent for a pizzeria next to their nightclub. Somehow along the way, simply slinging slices to partygoers from a truck turned into an adventure in innovation. This year, they launched one of the first natural gas-powered food trucks in the city and by the end of the month they will have a fleet of four mobile pizzerias roaming the streets of New York, selling their take on Neapolitan pizza.
Take a look inside the truck in the slideshow above. You can check on their daily locations through Twitter or Facebook. Stay tuned for more Vendy coverage next week when we recap the full event. You can see all the finalists and buy tickets on the Vendy website.
