Where Do You Get Picnic Supplies in NYC?
It's nice weather time in New York, and we have picnics on our mind. Last year we rounded up takeout spots near New York parks with food ideal for picnics. But more often than not we take a from-scratch approach with our picnics, making some simple dishes at home with an assist or two in the form of pre-made spreads, charcuterie, and the like.
I mean, I could make hummus for my day in Prospect Park, but I'd rather pick it up at Sahadi's along with fresh labne and some good olive oil for the road. Or if I'm doing an outdoor meal in Washington Square Park, I might as well hoof it to Murray's for some jam and snacks to go along with my order of cheese. Or maybe the Kalustyan's deli counter on the way to Madison Square Park, for dips and bean salads with Damascus brand pita.
I don't consider this a lazy way out from picnics—rather it's a chance to embellish whatever quick salad and fruit selection I whipped up with some more substantial dishes and ingredients. So how about you? Corner deli, fancy cheese shop, Middle Eastern market—where do you get your picnic goods?
