Beyond the flowers and sodas sold outside is a small doorway that leads into Sunny & Annie's: a tiny, cramped 24-hour convenience store filled with endless cans and goods and a little deli counter. Taped all over said counter is an armory of sandwich options—a whopping 30 to be exact—all of which are more adventurous than the next. Customer favorites (but not ours) include the P.H.O. Real; but even more wild is the the Mr. Bloomburger ($7.50).

This sandwich is one of the most bizarre we've ever encountered: curry or lemon chicken salad, seafood salad, and a medley of fresh vegetables, like cucumber, watercress, tomato, and red onion, served on a hoagie or in a wrap. We went with the chicken curry—if we're going to do bizarre, we might as well not be shy—and it was surprisingly satisfying, with a sneaky curry flavor, pops of juicy grapes, and crunchy celery, and a nice creaminess that made up nicely for the slightly dry chicken.

As for the seafood salad? I'm not sure if it was truly necessary, though the shock of finding a plump mussel in one of my bites was quite memorable. It didn't interfere with anything nor did it take anything away from the sandwich; the salad simply added a subtle briny flavor and some interesting textures. The liberal layer of creamy avocado, crisp vegetables and cilantro give necessary freshness and sliced jalapeño adds some appreciated edge.

An added boon to the place: They deliver. For free. 24 hours a day.
