Dominique Ansel Bakery just launched a new collection of spring sweets this week, and of course, just for you, we tried every single new item. Our favorite? This cheery Black & Blue Pavlova ($6). Two big and puffy blueberry meringues sandwich a filling of blueberry compote, whipped lemon cream, and a ring of fresh blackberries. Use your fork and just crush and dig in. It's a perfect mini-pavlova made for one.


The Hazelnut Caramelia Cake ($5.75) is like a giant Ferrero Rocher all glammed up, but less sweet and more rich. A crisp feulletine base is topped with silky and unexpectedly light caramelized milk chocolate mousse, then finished with an outer layer of finely chopped and caramelized hazelnuts.


And then there's the Matcha Passion Fruit Blanc Manger ($5.75). I love desserts that involve matcha, especially when the come paired with tart passion fruit. Here it's in the form of a vanilla blanc manger with matcha custard and a bright passion fruit center. The matcha sable cookie secured on top is no afterthought. Alternate bits of cookie and pudding for maximum satisfaction.


And...a bonus! Go in the mornings to get this Nutella Milk Bread ($3.50) warm from the oven. It's made from plush brioche dough laced with generous smears of Nutella and crushed hazelnuts. A bit of breakfast, a bit of dessert, all in a single, buttery pastry.
