Ever wanted to make souvlaki, kati rolls, and other New York street food favorites at home? Sure, we have you covered with halal cart-style chicken and rice, but Serious Eats contributors and blogger friends Alexandra Penfold and Siobhan Wallace have gone several steps further. Their book, New York a la Cart: Recipes and Stories from the Big Apple's Best Food Trucks, is now out, and from the time we've spent with it so far, it's pretty awesome.

The book profiles 50 New York street vendors, new and old school, with inside stories about what it's really like to serve street food every day and insight into why they got into this career in the first place. The book also includes 100 recipes from the vendors adapted for home kitchens.

Copies are making their way into bookstores now, and Amazon is currently offering is for less than $10. Over the next couple of weeks the authors will be doing book signings around the city; you can catch their schedule here.
