I promised you a return trip for the Chocolate Babka ($9.95), and here it is! Look at those endless braids laced with melty chocolate chips. It is an excellent babka, a "fancy" one, all yeasty with a brioche-like buttery body.


Take a look inside! See all the layers, the twists and turns, so moist with chocolate evenly distributed.


The bakery also bakes cake loaves that sit on the shelf right above the babka. They come in flavors like Carrot Cake ($9.95, pictured) with tons of walnuts and rough grated carrots, Maple-Pecan, Marble (chocolate and vanilla swirl), and Banana. While they look tempting, they're also the weakest link in the bakery lineup, simply because they are excessively sweet. Instead...


...pick up a canelé (or two!) near the register. $3 apiece, with a beautiful caramelized exterior, custardy soft all the way through.
