Sugar Rush: Zuppa Inglese at Il Buco Alimentari & Vineria

Zuppa Inglese ($10) is the newest dessert at Il Buco Alimentari & Vineria. Candied kumquats top a jar filled high with a custardy mascarpone mousse that's rich with yolk flavor and just sweet enough.
Dig in...and what are those cake pieces? Brown butter cake! Little golden nuggets, fluffy with a haunting finish. It's enough to add a necessary flavor dimension, though never draw attention far from that that mousse.

P.S. Get a slice of this chocolate cake to-go on the way out. They keep it at the pastry counter (near these goodies) and slice the cake to order. It's a classic chocolate cake iced over in ganache. It's topped with cacao nibs and makes for a fine breakfast.
