You have to love Eisenberg's for their deli atmosphere. And also for their value. Take the pastrami and egg sandwich ($7.50) for example. It may not come with the showmanship and larded bounty as other sandwiches of its kind around town, but it's a more than reasonable amount for this pile of fatty pastrami heaped over tender egg.
It's a simple, no frills sandwich that combines the best thing about breakfast with one of the best things about New York lunch counters. The meat is well salted and smoked, and cooked until the fat softens and the edges crisp. It's a texture that takes well to the soft eggs, effectively the Jewish deli version of bacon and eggs. You can order it on a roll, but we like the subtle hint of caraway and the less bready option provided by slices of rye.
