A Sandwich a Day: Butternut Squash Fritters at Runner & Stone
In this great city of ours, one could eat a different sandwich every day of the year—so that's what we'll do. Here's A Sandwich a Day, our daily look at sandwiches around New York. Got a sandwich we should check out? Let us know. —The Mgmt.
When I had ordered the butternut squash fritters on a roll ($8), one of the servers at Runner & Stone remarked that I was about to have a great day.
It turns out she was right. The fritters are just barely crispy on the outside, giving way to a light and sweet butternut squash purée within. It's a balancing act of sweet and savory, soft and crispy, all enhanced by housemade ricotta and some arugula on the chewy roll. The sandwich is only available on the lunch menu and will likely change with the seasons, so plan your visit to Runner & Stone accordingly.
