One of the great things about Veselka is their 24-hour service. Another is the flexibility of their menu: you can get breakfast at any hour of the day.

Here's one such offering: a Fried Egg Sandwich ($5.75), its price tag is stretched with complimentary OJ and coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. The sandwich is offered with your choice of bacon, kielbasa or sausage, and it comes on a roll or one of the other varieties of bread in the restaurant's pantry.

A roll most approximates the sandwich's bodega cousins, and smoky, fatty kielbasa is just right at Veselka. The meat is thrown on the grill to char moments before the eggs come together in a tight scramble on the flattop. The poofy roll looks overwhelming, but its soft crumb gracefully gives way to the contents within. It's everything you want in a breakfast sandwich, regardless of the time of day.
