Sugar Rush: Spiced Doughnuts at Abe & Arthur's
Count them. There are exactly nine ping pong ball-sized doughnuts, a cascading carnival hot from the fryer. These are ricotta doughnuts ($16) with deeply browned exteriors that crunch into a fluffy poofs. But there's another note of flavor that I didn't taste on my last visit: allspice, an addition just for the winter season. The doughnuts are accompanied by mini bottles of housemade caramel and fresh strawberry sauce, which you can pipe in for a DIY-filled doughnut. And that little metal dish at the bottom? Warm chocolate, always a fine doughnut accompaniment.
