At the cafe inside McNally Jackson Books, next to the register, is an array of baked goods with cakes, cookies, pies, and scones. They come from many different vendors, and recently I've spotted a number of sweets from Brooklyn-based Pickle Petunia. There was this Pumpkin Pie ($5.50) one afternoon, a generous slice outfitted with a beautiful, flaky crust and wobbly, nutmeg and cinnamon-accented filling. The following afternoon brought a rustic Pear Galette alongside Pecan Pie. Expect the offerings to change daily, and if you spot the old-fashioned Apple Pie, save a slice for me.
