Ovenly doesn't mess around when it comes to their Brooklyn Blackout Cake ($6). It's intense as it looks with layers of deep dark chocolate cake and a good punch of salt to the buttercream. It's not just any buttercream. First they make a chocolate pudding, and then fold that pudding into a classic buttercream. The result is a salted pudding-buttercream hybrid that should be whipped and served by the bowlful. Instead it comes in thick brushes dividing the fudgy devils food cake—and I'm not complaining. Couple it with a mug of cold milk (they even serve almond milk at the bakery) to really kick off your weekend.
