Our Favorite NYC Chef Interviews of 2012

[Photographs: Brent Herrig, unless otherwise noted]

My photographer—Brent Herrig—and I have been fortunate to chat with some of New York's most present chefs, writers and drinks people this past year. From the somber warmth of Le Bernardin to the rustically casual Meatball Shops to the joyous ambiance surrounding the Big Gay Ice Cream truck, we've been met with passion, thought, and truly serious eats.

I (obviously) have a thing for food. But even more so I'm fascinated by people—what they love, how they express themselves, and what they give value. More than anything, those we've sat with for this series teach us to be present with our ingredients, our guests, and the special moments that bring us together to eat, drink and be merry in the city that rarely sleeps.

Click on the slideshow above for a few of our favorite tidbits, be they direct quotes from the interviews or quirky bits that we couldn't squeeze into the final cut. Thank you to all who sat with us for this column. You can find our interviews with them here.
