A new coffee shop called UR Cup recently opened on Mercer (right off 8th Street). And while the name leaves much to be desired, the assortment of pastries make up for it. You'll find croissants from Mille-Feuille, pistachio biscotti, red velvet cake rounds, chewy ginger cookies (which happen to be gluten-free), and this excellent Chai Fig Cake ($2.75) baked by O Cafe. Though the chai flavor is faint, it's a moist, delicate cake with fine crumbs and a generous portion of chopped figs tucked into each bite. Pair it with one of their many loose leaf tea options, or if you're feeling more gutsy, the Cocoa Latte, which is made with a dose of dark cocoa powder.
