At long last, the Nolita branch of Taïm officially opens today. For months it's been torture for us to walk past that Spring and Mulberry corner—which we do often since the office isn't far—and see it still under construction. Our falafel fantasies would someday come true behind those closed doors. Then, FINALLY (!!!!!), yesterday they did. When we heard about the soft opening, we raced over to get our falafel fix.
Inside, the space is five times larger than the original one on Waverly Place in the West Village, which isn't saying much—anyone who's been there knows it's smaller than some closets. The new space, however, has at least 15 bright orange stools (that's got to be at least a 300% stool expansion), an island with utensils in the middle, and even some standing room.
The menu is exactly the same at the new location but they did mention some new falafel flavors in the works as well as seasonal salads.
So, how's the falafel? As fantastic as Taïm the Original. Robyn and I ordered green falafel sandwiches. Ah yes, it's the same green falafel we know so well and love so deeply; those bright herby innards, that chickpea nuttiness, and the crisp brown shell, still warm from the fryer.
Another perk about this location: they're open until 11 p.m. on Sunday through Wednesday and 1 a.m. on Thursday through Saturday. Post-pub falafels!
