Some of you might be tired of pumpkin sweets already. This Sugar Rush is for those who are not. There are two types of seasonal pumpkin goodies to keep you eyes out for at Maison Kayser. The first is this Pumpkin Éclair ($4) made from the classic pâte à choux dough and piped with a filling that is not just pumpkin or chocolate but a combination of both. They use milk chocolate to make this cool, creamy custard where the notes of spiced pumpkin is delivered in equal strength as the chocolate. Ginger! Cinnamon! Nutmeg! Easy to love.
The Pumpkin Tart ($5.50) is a notch more sophisticated. Here a tart shell (which seems to have gone slightly downhill since they first opened) comes filled with mousse made from fromage blanc. The result is tart and fresh, with a texture more akin to flan than typical mousse. It gives the tart a lift and lightness to match a rich scoop of pumpkin custard and caramelized pumpkin seeds.
