In this great city of ours, one could eat a different sandwich every day of the year—so that's what we'll do. Here's A Sandwich a Day, our daily look at sandwiches around New York. Got a sandwich we should check out? Let us know. —The Mgmt.
I want to like the Roasted Ribeye ($14.50) at LuLu & Me, and I do, but with a caveat. This elevated roast beef sandwich has meat sliced deli style, but thick enough to retain that satisfying sink-your-teeth-into-it feeling. The beef is meaty but tender (thanks, ribeye), and when combined with a thin coating of mayo, it's a pleasantly rich bite. The sweet pickled red onions balance out the peppery beefiness of the ribeye, and the thick layer of arugula adds a crunchy textural contrast. Cradling it all in a chewy yet light ciabatta makes for a satisfying sandwich indeed.
The only problem? This sandwich was over $15, after tax. Sure, it came with some fries and ketchup, but for that price we'd hoped for something more substantial. The sandwich and fries was enough to fill me up for lunch, but if I'm forking over $15, I want leftovers too.
