Many people know Vosges Haut Chocolat in Soho as a place to pick up chocolates (think chocolate bars in combinations like ginger and wasabi, lemon zest and peppercorns), but few know they offer an in-store cafe menu where you can get hot chocolate to stay, perhaps paired with caramel marshmallows or a topping of cardamom-infused whipped cream.

While it's still warm out, order a cup of house-made soft serve ($4). Flavors change from time to time; my most recent visit brought a velvety milk chocolate swirled with wattleseed vanilla. The seeds give the vanilla a smoky, nutty flavor that allows it to stand up to the classic chocolate. Past soft-serve flavors have included chocolate-pandan and Madagascar vanilla, so check back often.
