Sugar Rush: Baton Cakes at ChikaLicious

These Baton Cakes ($18/whole cake) have been on the menu at ChikaLicious for awhile, but only recently have they started offering them by the slice ($5.75). There's a Valrhona Chocolate Mousse cake, a Strawberry Shortcake with streaks of raspberry yogurt and fresh raspberries, and then my favorite of the three, the Chocolate Mille Feuille.

Crunchy puff pastry is layered with frozen hazelnut mousse (which ends up tasting like a semifreddo) folded with toasted, crushed hazelnuts, and espresso-soaked cake. It's a potent, intense dessert, and that one slice can easily be shared between two. ChikaLicious also started doing Mille Crepe Cakes (in multiple flavors), but save your money...the crepes are too thick and get soggy by the time they serve it. It can't compete with the one from Lady M; not even close.
