Cranberry Beans and Fairytale Eggplant, Bodhitree Farm
It was hard to find a more striking juxtaposition this week than at Bodhitree's stand, where the cranberry beans and the fairytale eggplant sat side by side.
Concord Grapes, Locust Grove Fruit Farm
Grapes, when grown in season, taste about a thousand times more vibrant and sweet than anything you'll get at the grocery store. It can't really be described, but between now and the end of November, you can taste for yourself.
Asian Pears, Oak Grove Plantation
Apples and pears are starting to appear around the market, and so is my favorite relative of the pear, the Asian pear.
Eggplant, Cherry Lane Farms
Cherry Lane was selling eggplant in shades of black, white, and lavender.
Sungolds, Cherry Lane Farms
Cherry lane was also selling these sungold cherry tomatoes for a pretty reasonable six bucks a quart.
Haricots Jaunes, Berried Treasures
In addition to the more traditional haricots verts, Berried Treasures has this sweet yellow variety. Romano beans were also for sale this week.
Chive Flowers, Paffenroth Gardens
The flowers on the tops of these chives make a beautiful garnish on salads or just about any other type of dish, for that matter. Paffenroth was also selling onion chives and garlic chives, among other fresh herbs.
Edamame, Paffenroth Gardens
Paffenroth had an ample supply of these fuzzy legumes this week.
Sugar Pumpkins, Paffenroth Gardens
I'm not ready for these. It's still tomato season in my brain. I can't hear you, pumpkins!
Tristar Strawberries, Mountain Sweet Berry Farm
Mountain Sweet Berry Farm was selling their late season tristar strawberries.
