Sugar Rush: Sesame Sundae at Masak

Tiny scoops of ice cream, in both black and white sesame, fill this sundae cup at Masak on 13th Street. Pastry chef Briar Winters is responsible for the housemade ice cream, excellent with a full and rich texture. The sesame is bold but never overwhelming. Paired with crumbled halvah and crisp sesame tuile, the sundae makes for a playful study in sesame. Greenmarket strawberries, macerated and spooned over the top, are no afterthought. It brings a seasonal lightness to balance the heavier flavors. Who knew strawberries and sesame made such a great pairing?
