Sugar Rush: Blackberry Bread at Locanda Verde

Here are two items of note from the beloved bakery counter of Locanda Verde. First, this Blackberry Bread, a thick slice at $3.75 apiece. It's hearty, generously spiced, and would be just as appropriate at an autumn breakfast table as it would be in the summer. The loaf is studded with fresh blackberries and hints of cinnamon and nutmeg, the top complete with a drizzle of icing. In the same glass dome where they store the blackberry bread, you'll find the Strawberry Scones ($3.75). These sugar-topped rounds are plush, more cake and biscuit-like than traditional scones, but excellent with just the right balance between butter, fruit, and biscuit.
