Neither peanuts nor doughnuts are actual botanical "nuts," but they sure taste great when combined. It seems like a number of doughnut shops are adding a peanutty riff to their repertoire; here's a roundup of some of the tastiest!

Peanut Butter Glaze–Blackberry Jelly: In this Doughnut Plant favorite, peanut butter glaze coats a pillowy, blackberry jam-filled doughnut. The pairing of peanut butter and jelly flavors is exquisite—the slight salt of the peanut butter complements the sweet tang of blackberry jam in the center. The jam isn't overly sweet, and has a pleasant tartness that blends well with the rich nutty, sugary taste of the doughnut's peanutty glaze.

Peanut Butter-Banana Cream-Filled: This doughnut tastes like a desserty peanut butter and banana sandwich. It's got a generous squirt of banana cream filling in the middle and is topped with a light, peanutty glaze. Tons of banana flavor comes through—the peanut butter flavor, while present, is on the light side. Certain to be appreciated by lovers of cream-filled doughnuts as well as those who enjoy the peanut butter-banana combo in smoothies, muffins, and other sweets.

Salted Peanut Doughnut: If you want a treat that's all about peanuts, this cake doughnut has a more powerful peanut punch than all of the other Doughnut Plant offerings. A slight saltiness in the glaze subtly plays up the cakey, sweet taste of the rest of doughnut, something like the effect of salt in salted caramel.

Peanut Butter Cup Doughnut: This is the best option for independent-minded doughnut eaters. Instead of ordering a pre-made doughnut off a menu, at Holey Cream! you can choose toppings and frosting for your own customized, hand-dipped doughnut. The doughnut topping selection is very accommodating to peanut and peanut butter fiends. I built a colossal peanut buttery doughnut with chocolate frosting and peanut drizzle, and chopped peanut butter cups on top. You can also add chopped nuts, or even order a doughnut ice cream sandwich—a scoop of ice cream (peanut butter caramel cookie dough, chocolate-peanut butter deluxe, and peanut butter crunch are all options) between two halves of a doughnut.
