Eating at Eataly isn't exactly a relaxing experience with all the crowd chaos and long lines. But a carefree, walk-up and eat meal can be had at La Piazza. Offering an enoteca menu of salumi, cheese, crudo and crostini, La Piazza satisfies the "I need my mozzarella and prosciutto fix, stat!" craving with fuss-free standing marble table-tops and several bars located in Eataly's center pavillion.
One buzzed-about dish here is the Panino Di Razza Fritta ($17). Served with a fennel and arugula salad, this fried fish sandwich is a bona fide meal unto itself, with giant filets of local skate, two huge pieces of chewy bread, and a slightly underwhelming remoulade. With plenty of fresh-tasting fish—made even tastier with a delicate fried crunch—this sandwich at least works for its $17 price tag. But for a better value, swing by Fridays at lunch when this panino is the "Piatti del Giorno" for a cheaper $14.
