A Sandwich a Day: Chicken Filet Sandwich at Schnipper's Quality Kitchen

In this great city of ours, one could eat a different sandwich every day of the year—so that's what we'll do. Here's A Sandwich a Day, our daily look at sandwiches around New York. Got a sandwich we should check out? Let us know.—The Mgmt.

There's been a lot of talk about fried chicken sandwiches in the news the past few days, so we found ourselves hungry to try the Chicken Filet Sandwich ($5.99) at Schnipper's Quality Kitchen, which, for the month of August, will be donating $1 of each sale to Marriage Equality USA. It's by no means an exact replica of Chick-Fil-A's fried chicken sandwich, but it's pretty darn tasty in its own right.

The filet arrives thin and crisp, with curled edges, causing Kenji to remark that "they must not have removed the tendons" to flatten it out. A substantial (I counted at least six) amount of pickle chips bring their requisite brininess and crunch, and an ample helping of spicy mayo is the sauce I always wished Chick-Fil-A would put on their sandwiches. The meat is admittedly a bit dry, but that's nothing that the juices from the pickles and the creamy sauce can't remedy. A standard fast food bun, lightly toasted, holds the whole thing together, making for a tasty fried chicken lunch we'd be happy to eat again.
